When we make the choice to believe and confess, we are saved. When we are saved, many things happen at the same time. God takes our heart of stone, and gives us a heart of flesh. We are brought back to life spiritually, or born again, and seated with Christ in the heavenlies. We are justified, declared not guilty through the payment of death by Christ Jesus who died in our place. We are adopted into the family of Jesus Christ as children of God (Romans 8:14-17). We have already been redeemed, we have already been written in the Lamb’s Book of Life, we were chosen before the founding of the world, we are walking out the life God has ordained for us, IF we CHOOSE HIM! For 2 Peter 3:9 states that, “The LORD is …not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” He will save us if we choose Him.
We are Justified, Born again, adopted, given a new heart, and seated with Christ in the heavenlies when we are saved, but it does not end there. We are promised that the Holy Spirit will Sanctifiy us, make us more and more like Jesus. “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments (NASB95).” This time of being alive – after being saved – is our chance to do what Christ is commanding us and gain rewards in heaven (1 Corinthians 3:14; 2 Corinthians 5:10). If we let the Holy Spirit work in us we will be in the process of sanctification as long as we live, producing more and more fruit for the Kingdom of Christ. This perseverance will end with our being glorified. We will finally be seperated from sin and any evil. Our Glorification will come when we are face to face with our risen Savior, Jesus Christ.
Living for eternity
We ALL live forever. The term eternal life is used to speak of the people who choose to be with God. The other choice (or non-choice) is eternal death in Hell. Either way we exist forever, with God (life), or without God (death/ seperation from God). There will be no time when everyone will make it to heaven with God. There will be no end to the suffering, no annihilation, no second chances, just as there will be no end to the joy of fellowship with God. Some will be thrown into Hell with the devil and his angels. Forever.
