We are born with a spirit that is dead. When we accept the grace of God and receive the gift of Jesus Christ, our spirit is born to life and through our spirit we are seated with Christ in the heavenlies. We battle the enemy with our flesh, soul, and spirit. Before we are saved, we are no threat to the enemy because we are already going to Hell for our sins. When we are saved, our spirit is made alive and we become a target of the enemy. The battle is here in this realm with consequences in the spiritual realm. If the enemy can keep us from being born again (spiritually), or convince us to throw that away, then he hurts God.
