Can the enemy do miracles?

Yes. They can do many miraculous looking things. In the book of Job, the enemy brought a wind from the east to knock down the house that Job’s children were eating in, brought the “fire of God” from heaven which killed men and livestock, caused two separate people groups to come, kill, and steal, they also brought sickness and disease on Job himself. If all of these were used by the enemy, they will be able to use them again, when God allows it. It is also possible that the enemy will be able to stop or slow these occurrences at the command of the antichrist making it look “miraculous”. Jesus said that many of the people He healed were bound by the enemy. Jesus also cast out many demons. If the enemy wanted to duplicate the miraculous works of Christ, then all they would have to do is cooperate and leave when the antichrist commands them to. This would look like the power of Jesus Christ causing people to think of the imposter as the real Messiah. The good news is that the enemy had to ask permission from God before he could touch Job or any of his possessions, and they had to obey Jesus the Christ whenever he commanded them. They could not resist the power of the almighty God.

What miracles can the enemy do?

We should expect the Antichrist to be able to command the disasters recorded in Job and many more to deceive the nations. “Miracles” like walking on water, levitating, projecting physical power at long ranges (think Darth Vador/telekinesis), driving animals to do what they would not normally do (think Cujo or the talking snake), bending light to change what is seen (werewolves?), sounds that do not have an origin, producing and clearing smells, and seemingly dropping the temperature quickly. Four of our senses can be directly affected by the enemy which should make us aware of how much we may be manipulated by them if God allows. These imitation miracles are seen by exorcists when dealing with the enemy today.

What is the good news?

When you have committed your life to Jesus Christ, you are sealed and have the Holy Spirit living within you, and you are seated with Christ in the heavenlies. This means with the power of the Holy Spirit that is within you, you are more powerful than any enemy you may encounter, just call on Him. The enemy must get permission from God to do anything to anyone who is a believer. Also, if it happens anywhere or to anybody, believers and unbelievers alike, God either caused it or He allowed it to happen. Everything. None of the power of the enemy is a true miracle, only the manipulation of what is already there to make it look like he has power. True power is what God has, the ability to speak things into existence (one of which was the enemy).

  1. You could also reference Matthew 24
21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.

22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.

23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.

24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

    1. Hi Steve,
You again have pointed out an improvement to a post. Thank you. The passages of Matthew 24:21-28 and 2 Thessalonians 2:9-12 both speak of the ability of the enemy to perform miracles that will deceive many. One source that was consulted for this reply is GotQuestions.org which also talks about the “miracles” today surrounding the Virgin Mary. These miracles are believed by millions throughout the world. Unfortunately, these apparitions speak things that are not Biblical, including the teaching that “God wants to establish worldwide devotion to Mary’s immaculate heart, that souls will be saved if devotions to her immaculate heart are established, that she is the mediatrix between man and God, that praying the rosary is required to enter heaven, that she receives and answers prayer, that taking communion makes reparation for sins committed against her, and that blessed objects should be worn and placed in homes. None of these messages are of God. Jesus is the only way to God (John 14:6). Mary does not have an “Immaculate” (sinless)heart. Devotion to Mary is not necessary, and the Bible never instructs us to pray to anyone but God. Jesus is the only mediator between man and God (Hebrews 7:25; 1 Timothy 2:5; 1 John 2:1).” “What does the Bible say about demonic/satanic miracles?,” Got Questions Ministries, accessed November 6, 2024, [https://www.gotquestions.org/demonic-satanic-miracles.html]

Remember the admonition, “For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book;” (Revelation 22:18). And: Deuteronomy 4:2; Proverbs 30:5-6.

      Thanks again!
