Voices
The voices in your head come from three places, God, you, or the demonic realm. Yes the demonic realm can hear your thoughts and plant thoughts into your head. People may be against this idea, but how do people carry on conversations with voices (demons) in their head? The evil may need an invitation to be able to hear your thoughts but what is an invitation? I cannot say for sure, so I would say that at some point in my life I have issued an invitation without even knowing. I do know that when I prayed over several days to be free from all evil, I was left with an uncluttered mind. I did not know that there was anything evil there to clutter my mind.
Voices and God
God sometimes talks to you by putting a voice in your head. Not usually, and if you think that it is God, you need to make sure and try the spirits as the Bible says (1 John 4:4).
Voices and the enemy
The most likely reason you are hearing voices is that they are demonic. Even ones you believe are good for you or making you feel important/powerful, are probably demonic. The demons want to use you as a pawn. They want to make things happen in the physical realm that satisfies their desire to hurt God. Keep in mind their ultimate goal, to hurt God as much as they can. They are only destructive and do not have a good outcome for any human in mind. If they give a benefit to any human, it is to have greater control over that human. I have heard of many instances where people know that the voices in their head are going to destroy them, but these people are so taken by the promises of the king of liars they accept the voices and their own destruction. These people are going to be sorry they accepted a substitute for the Living God of the universe. They might feel good and powerful now, but! There is a day coming when all evil will end up in the lake of fire.
Sometimes the voices are so loud and so overwhelming that the people suffering with them feel that the only way to silence them is to end thier lives. This is not the answer. As I said above, I had clutter in my mind as a Christian, living a Christian life. When I prayed for several days to be free from all evil in my life, I was finally free from the evil clutter that was clogging my thinking.
This is the prayer that I was praying out loud.
Deception Versus Truth
Dear heavenly Father,
I know that You desire truth in the inner self and that facing this truth is the way of liberation (John 8:32). I acknowledge that I have been deceived by the father of lies (John 8:44) and that I have deceived myself (I John 1:8). I Pray in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ that You, heavenly Father, will rebuke all deceiving spirits by virtue of the shed blood and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. And since by faith I have received You into my life and am now seated with Christ in the heavenlies (Eph. 2:6), I command all deceiving spirits to depart from me. I now ask the Holy Spirit to guide me into all truth (John 16:13). I ask You to “search me, O God, and know my heart; try me and know my anxious thoughts; and see if there be any hurtful way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way” (Ps. 139:23,24).
In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
Suicide and Voices
Many people who have survived a suicide attempt have stated that the voices in their head told them to do it. The other common thread with suicide and voices is the voices are so overwhelming people felt that the only way to get them to be quiet was to commit suicide. No one needs to hear these voices any second longer than they want to. The Holy Spirit will quiet your mind when you let Him. All you have to do is accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior, believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, confess Him with your mouth, and you will be saved (Romans 10:9-10). When you are saved the Holy Spirit comes and dwells within you. With the Holy Spirits power and assistance you are more powerful than any enemy you come up against. You can command any and all evil to leave your presence. The book “The Bondage Breaker” by Neil Anderson has a story in it called “Silence” about a woman with a voice that she realized was evil. When she cast it out, she unknowingly invited it back. When she cast it out the second time, it was gone for good. She remembered a line from the Steps to Freedom in Christ that says “Faith is something that you decide to do, not something you feel like doing.” Anyone who casts out evil, needs to replace it with the Holy Spirit, or the demons will return and the person will end up worse than before (Matthew 12:43-45).
The Attraction of Voices
Many will ask, “Why would anyone listen to a voice in their heads?” The voices in your head promise all sorts of interesting things. The girl in Philippi had a spirit of divination and brought her masters a lot of money (Acts 16:16). These demons always promise something that is attractive, money, power, knowledge, friendship, encouragement, something that makes you better if you listen to them. Sometimes the attractive thing is them not hurting someone you love. This is particularly effective in children, yes, there are cases of very young children being affected by these voices. They will be good/useful to you until you turn from them, or they are done with you. This could be at any time, you will have no idea when it is coming. They will destroy you. The enemy will use you for their purposes and then make sure you cannot become a threat to them. Sometimes driving you insane, or causing you to kill yourself or others. Either way you loose.
Murder and Voices
“The voices in my head made me do it.” How many of us have heard this or something like it? The gunmen in a Pennsylvania church “non-shooting” said that the spirits got into his head. “The pastor asked the gunman why he did it. ‘He told me the spirits got into his head,’ Germany [The Pastor] said”.1 This man pulled the trigger, but the bullet did not leave the gun (miracle). He previously shot his cousin at their home with the same gun. No other reason for the attempted shooting was given or evident. The Pastor did not know the man, but forgave him anyways.
PTSD and Voices
Many people have some sort of trauma. One of the problems with a traumatic experience is the open door it seems to create. Many people who have had a traumatic experience have voices in their head. These voices are comforting at first and then… These voices must be ejected from your mind replaced with the Holy Spirit and not allowed to return, they will try, but you must kick them back out. Unless you have physically ejected a demonic influence from your life through the Steps to Freedom in Christ, or some other exorcism event, they are still with you. If there is an open door at any time in your life, they will come through it. They will gain a foothold, then build a stronghold. Even if you have closed the door and renounced everything that opened that door. Even if you think they are gone, they are not. Unless, they have been phyisically, intentionally, and correctly commanded to leave. Again, without the power of the Holy Spirit you cannot do this on your own. With Him you can do it. It may take a while and you will get repercussions from the enemy, but you can do it. Getting free from evil footholds is much easier and safer with someone empowered by the Holy Spirit who can help.
Can Christians Be Influenced by Evil?
YES. Christians can most certainly be influenced by evil. If someone comes to Christ, he is a new creature (1 Corinthians 5:17). Yet there can be influences from demons still in that person. Unless they have been cast out, they are still there. You cannot be demon possessed, you are sealed and possessed by the Holy Spirit. BUT, if the evil has a right to be there, through a door/invitation in the past, then they are still there. A Christian needs to close all doors and cast all demonic influence away from them. Until this is done the demons have a right to be there. When a demon comes through a door or invitation and makes a foothold, they fight for a stronghold. If the demon is not evicted it will stay there in its stronghold, using any weakness to increase its influence. The Holy Spirit will not go against anything that you choose. If you chose to allow demonic influence into your life, the Holy Spirit will not evict a being you chose to allow access. Even if the demon got in through a door that was opened unwillingly through trauma, abuse, curse, family influence, or any reason, it will remain. The Holy Spirit will not throw out any demon unless you tell Him to, He will only keep you from being destroyed by it.
How Do We Loose Protection
When we do something that is against the will of God, we are choosing to open ourselves to the influence of demons. If we are looking at a woman wether real life or recorded with lust, (porn) we are opening the door for demonic influence. If we do not obey what we know the Lord has commanded, we open the door to demonic influence. Whatever we do not present to God to rule, the enemy rules. There are so many ways to open a door to demonic influence in our lives, and none of us knows what they all are, that we have to act as if there has been an open door. There does not need to be one currently open. The enemy does not leave on his own, ever.
Authority
Another way to loose protection is to remove ourselves from the God ordained line of authority. Ladies, this is not submitting to your husbands. Men, this in not taking responsibility for your family, (hint, you will) or not submitting to the word of God. If we take ourselves out of the God ordained line of authority then we are open to demonic influence and are not under the protection God has put in place for us. If we defy the earthly authorities, we are not submitting to them as God has ordained. We can only defy the earthly authorities when they are ungodly in what they require. We can use any legal means to defy them, but we cannot defy governmental authority unless they are commanding something that is against God’s word.
